The term Cloud Computing is a term that is throwin around these days with different meanings to different people. So I’ll go over quickly the different forms of Cloud Computing in this post:
- Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): This is about the actual infratructure as a service. Example vCloud Director.
- Platform as a Service (PaaS): This is development platforms for which the development tools themselves are hosted in the cloud. Example Google Apps.
- Software as a Service (SaaS): This is also known as “on-demand software”, is a software delivery method in which the software is hosted in the cloud.Example: Microsoft 360.
- Desktop as a Service (DaaS): This is also called virtual desktop or hosted desktop services, in which the desktop is hosted on the cloud as a virtual desktop infrastructure ( VDI ) to a third party.
- Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS): Replicating virtual machines to a Cloud owned by a third party company, in case you need to power those VMs in case of a disaster.
- Strorage as a Service (SaaS): There are storage appliances you can place in your virtual infrastructure which in turn will replicaate to a cloud computing company so all the data is replicated off site.
These are are the main ones but I am sure we will have more added to the list as times goes on.
Thanks for reading.
